Almost a year ago, I joined livejournal as a brief respite from blogging at bloggar. It was to be a temporary break while I worked on a new skin for my blogspot address. Little did I expect that I would stay on LJ for a full 200 posts, join countless communities and form my own little haven in this blogging service. LJ became my blogging home.

Of course, having the attention span of whatever-is-smaller-than-a-hummingbird, I feel it's time to move on to another blog service. I'm not going to leave LJ completely though. I'll be back daily to check for comments as well as my friends page, since the communities are such gems for info. So, do drop a comment still when you pass by.

This doesn't mean that I won't be back to LJ also. Someday, I might be back, maybe even quicker than you'd expect. In any case, here's my new blog address: http://gforgabriel.wordpress.com. Cheers and see you there!

Gabriel.

Wow I can't seem to connect onto MSN Messenger. And, for the first time in a while, I actually want to start my work but I've left my thumbdrive in school by accident and the MSN groups seem to be down too so I can't even access any articles to edit. Darn.

In other news, I'm totally freaked out by the amount of work we might have to do for a certain government agency.

Gabriel.

ps. What a bummer. After last week's voting fiasco, I thought I finally found someone to support today for Project Superstar. Of course, this would mean that he gets eliminated tonight. Looks like I'll have to look again.

Well the news that I got yesterday and the wake I attended today not only caused me to think about the usual, life-is-precious philosophy and motivate me to be nicer and live a more fruitful, happier life, it also showed me how you never really know what a person is thinking and going through and really like, against all appearances.

I pray for brother Kee Wan, that he'll have moved on to a better, happier place and also for his family that they will be able to cope well. I know that God will provide them with the provisions to survive if they ask for it.

***

On a slightly less sombre mood, I walked into Popular at Jurong East MRT today just a few minutes before its closing, just to take a look at the new books. Lo and behold, the Pendragon book that I've been waiting for for literally the last six months has finally arrived! Although it isn't the usual publisher that I like and it does cost slightly more ($8.05) as compared to SAN Bookshop ($6.50 to $7.50), I bought it anyway since I've been waiting for so long. I'll probably regret the economically-unsound purchase later on but ah, who cares, sometimes a fanboy has to do what a fanboy has to do.

Gabriel.

Dear Santa,

I know I'm writing in kind of early this year but just wanna give you some lead time to prepare cause I know there are a lot of people for you to get presents for.

This Christmas, I would love to have good health & fitness (need to pass my napfa test!), good grades (would love that AD!), happiness & contentment, lots of LJ comments, suddenly increased editorial ability, lots of money, increased aptitude in music & sports, the ability to pass my driving test and, of course, the perennial favourite - world peace.

Of course, I know these are kind of hard to get. So I'm totally okay to settle for some of these instead.

Thanks a lot and hope your reindeers are fine!

Will leave you lots of low-fat cookies and skim milk on the table (must watch that tummy of yours!)

A slightly naughty boy this year,
Gabriel.

So the BBQ was pretty fun. It was a night (and afternoon before) of TV, toiling in the kitchen (well, some of the girls did), fun, laughter, food, camwhoring and, in some instances, screaming. Fun stuff yeah.

Only bad part of the night? I broke my favourite (and, well, only) pair of slippers that I've been wearing since year 1.
Yeah, Damien is the Australian Idol 2006!

He's the person I've liked best since the beginning of this entire competition and I seriously thought he would get eliminated halfway but, very pleasantly surprisingly, he's managed to stay all the way and he's now the champion of the season!

This is one of the very few times when the person I've liked best from the start has actually remained my favourite throughout and actually won in the end.

What with Hady, Eva and Zhi Yang (and some others I can't remember at the mo), this has been a fantastic year for reality TV singing competitions. Woohoo!

Gabriel.

ps. Happy as I am for Damien, though, I don't think he's going to do as well as in the charts as, say, Guy Sebastian and Shannon Noll from season 1 and Anthony Callea from season 2. He just doesn't have the teen girl support which will get him multi-platinum sales. Plus, his music is not exactly the record-selling mainstream pop. That said, though, I hope he at least does better than Kate DeAraugo or Casey Donovan, the previous two winners who have done pretty badly (despite being pretty good singers) due to either being too bland (Kate) or too artsy (Casey). I hope Sony BMG, or whoever is managing him, will market him well.

Ok I'm really not impressed with this year's Australian Idol winner's single. It's really quite a boring song. It was interesting to hear two very different arrangements and renditions from the two finalists though.

Damien's one was, unbiasely I say this, better, if only by virtue of the arrangement. When he sang it, this song actually sounded like a real, albeit rather boring, song you can actually on the radio. It's more of the guitar-strumming alt-rock (I think) numbers popular now.

Jessica had a really boring-ass RnB ballad style arrangement.

For the other two songs, I think Jessica actually did better with the Xtina and Janet Jackson songs while Damien did fantastic for the Alex Lloyd song but was a bit boring on the other.

Still, DAMIEN FTW!
Last night (from Thursday to Friday), I stayed overnight in school with the rest of the team in a concerted effort of moral and editorial (if need be) support for the production of the latest issue of Tribune. The overnight session comprised bouts of editing and story management, occasional walks in the pitch black block, long talks and activities about nothing much in particular, vigorous and frequent sessions of snacking on unhealthy foods and a gratuitous amount of cam-whoring.

The insane amount of eating, coupled with the fact that I had literally less than an hour of sleep for the entire two days, has left its indelible mark on my (rather fragile yet elastic) body. My face feels like it's going to erupt like Mount Vesuvius soon (and I'll end up looking like that guy in the first scene of Casino Royale being pursued by Bond) and my ever-widening girth is not only accelerating its ballooning, it's also becoming softer and rotund-er (or similarly "vulgar" adjectives). As Nessi likes to say, I'm "so flabby [I'm] Flubber" (or something to that effect).

Of course, the Sakae Sushi dinner I had with Yi Han, Nessi and Aggy after we left school today certainly didn't help matters. Nonetheless, I thoroughly enjoyed myself during dinner, helping myself to copious amounts of what I perceived to be slightly-healthier-than-usual foods and loads of water and green tea (I would later pay, literally, in equally copious amounts for this brief loss of self-restraint) and listening to my friends wax lyrical about their political affliations, viewpoints and generally intellectual discourses occasionally punctuated by trinklets of gossip or anecdotal experiences.

Tomorrow (or rather, later today), I shall spend my time resting and recharging, having a little R&R, attempting to catch up on my grieviously heavy load of editorial work, catching up on my Quiet Time (which I have neglected these past few days) and, perhaps, getting a little exercise to offset some of the "expand"iture (forgive the pun) from the previous few days.

Please do forgive me for my overly formal and excessively longwinded mode of delivery for this past blog entry. The brain (or what little of it I possess) tends to get dry and drone-ish when it has had little rest from operations for many an hour prior.

Now, I'm off to reacquaint myself with Elmo and Big Bird and everyone else on my luxuriant (some might say childish) bedsheets. Dreamland, here I come! Oh, and please, no dreams about worrisome morning showers in the sports complex, people riding off into sunsets on each other, weird infantile apparitions on level 8 or, *shudders*, million dollar grants for scholarships and institution-wide sports competitions.

Good night and au revoir!

Gabriel.

Just arrived home about half an hour ago from the Casino Royale gala premiere.

It's been a busy day.

After printj tutorial (which was utterly awkward for me because Charlotte wasn't there and I didn't know much about Trib), I headed down to the Institute of South-East Asian Studies (ISEAS) for a talk about something about journalism and using words as weapons or something but which ended up sounding more like a religious discourse between Islam and the other major religions, mainly Christianity.

When the seminar ended, I headed home to take a short rest before heading down to Vivocity to meet Fiona, Caili and Keith for dinner at Carl's Junior (supposed to be Superdog but it was too packed) and then the Casino Royale premiere after that. For more details about what I think about the movie, please go read my review on www.theurbanwire.com when it's up.

The movie ended at about 11.50pm and, by the time we made it out of the mall it was already 12.12am. I waited (quite anxiously) for the supposed 12.18am last bus, which only came at around 12.27am, after ensuring that I was worrying myself sick on how I was going to get home.

Needless to say, it's probably going to be the fastest journey by public transport back from Harbourfront to Bukit Batok station. It only took about 25 minutes! And then, from the interchange I quickly walked out to the main road (kinda freaky when you see the bus interchange totally, totally empty), where I hitched a cab almost immediately and it zoomed me back home. If not for the midnight charge, the ride would only have cost me $2.80.

Ok I know I'm kinda rambling but I'm tired and, for some reason, MSN refuses to allow me to talk to people so this is my only means of communication with the rest of you world wide webbers out there. My incessant words shall not be denied a platform!

Alright, whatever. I'm tired. Good night y'all, or whoever's reading this before it turns into morning (well, technically...let's not go there).

Gabriel.

Ok so after all that grand fuss I'm back to using my darling Bao Bei now. Apparently the new PC's DVD drive has something wrong or the system has something wrong because it has a lot of trouble installing things from CDs. I had to use very unorthodox, weird ways to install some of the programmes and games and, in the end, some of them still couldn't be installed. So, dad's going to dial up the shop tomorrow and bring it down for repairs.

Meanwhile, I shall have to subsist on Bao Bei then, which is ok with me, except for the totally faulty Firefox which refuses to run any updated add-ons. Even my skin theme doesn't work anymore. Thank goodness the default Firefox skin still looks ok.

And, in a not-related-to-my-desktop-problem-but-still-a-technological-issue way, why is it that, now that I've upgraded my blogger account to the new, google blogger beta mode (or whatever it's called), w.bloggar refuses to let me log onto it and post from there? So mafan lar.
---

In other news, goingcuckoo just told me that they are going to offer a psychology diploma in NP next year. What the (*&@#(*&#$!

Like I told him, though, I think I made a pretty decent choice in entering MCM so it's not like I'm going to regret it even with this new course. And, hopefully, I'll still be able to pursue psychology if I get to go into uni. But, of course, being a kiasu, competitive Singaporean and all, I'm just sour that the juniors will get these kinds of cool choices.

---

In other other news, Damien sang the hell out of two rather boring songs on Idol. The ending few bars to Nessun Dorma were PHWOAR, especially considering he had only a few days to learn the song from scratch and that he has no prior opera training. Damien for the win! (I'm quite expecting him to go out tomorrow though. Don't think he can fight against Dean's rabid fangirls.)

Gabriel.

Ok so today went pretty well.

Journ camp was kinda messy but I think overall it went pretty well. We've managed to assess our potential successors. At the same time, it was pretty fun to be the torturer rather than the victim this time around.

Yay I've got my new desktop! And I didn't get cheated! (I think it's just my juvenile face that makes game sellers at SLS not take me seriously at all). Anyway, I think it's a pretty good deal. Shan't disclose the full price here (in case some smart alec comes along and quotes me a lower price from other places) but here are some of the specs: Intel Dual Core Processor 2.82ghz (wanted higher but they were a bit ex and aren't going to be used)! NVidia GeForce 7300 GT 256mb (also wanted higher but oh well, this should be enough)! 1GB ram! 250GB HDD!

Anyway, I'm quite proud of myself cause I set up the entire system just now alone and did it all correctly. There was a little trouble, though, when the wireless adapter CD refused to install but that's not my fault cause it was a CD problem or something. In the end, I solved the problem by randomly clicking around and trial-and-error-ing. I have no idea whether it's even correctly set up but, oh well, as long as it works. The speakers are also static-ing a lot for some reason and I've yet to rectify that yet.

Oh and for some reason both my dad and my thumbdrive's malfunctioned after we used it on the computer but in the end we decided it was just a coincidence cause our other USB products work perfectly fine with the new system.

Despite all the technical glitches and mishaps, I'm very happy with the system and really thankful to my mum for getting it. Very cool. Very exciting.

Ohoh! And I saw Virtua Tennis for PC on sale at some game shop there! Only $30 and it comes packaged with Virtua Fighter 2! Hahaha I shall wait and see whether I can get a lower price somewhere else.

Ok lar I'm tired from all the activities today. Plus, my fingers aching from the quite-hard-to-type keyboard that came with the system. Cya then!

Gabriel.

So, unlike Daniel Powter, I had a good day (ok lame).

The Newsroom today was filled with guffaws, shrieking, laughing and various other expressions of glee for no apparent reason. I think maybe we were on laughing gas?

Dinner with the girls (9 girls and I was the only guy!) was equally bellow-inducing, what with various anecdotes, funny/disgusting stories and the embarrassingly loud camwhoring session in the middle of Marina Square.

Heck, we even had a little adventure after, walking around the whole of Marina Square to find a nice place to take a cab. Alas, we met with the rudest cabdriver/cab situation ever (which I'm going to write a complaint letter for) but oh well, we finally found a cab anyway - and we didn't even have to pay the call charge.

Wheeee.

Tomorrow (or rather, later after my shower), editing, writing, editing, writing, coming up with interview questions, eating, editing.
Wowwee! During dinner just now with the parentals, mum was complaining about her laptop screen being too small and making her squint and spoil her eyesight so she was thinking of getting one of those new fangled (or maybe not so new but still quite fangled), huge LCD screens. And, somehow, I managed to talk her into buying me a new desktop instead!

So exciting. I've been wanting to get a new desktop for quite a while since I've never really felt that comfortable using a laptop and my lappie's about to fall into pieces anyway.

Therefore, I will be heading down with daddy and mummy to Sim Lim to get the desktop PC after journ camp. We're going to do those pick-out-parts-and-the-guy-will-assemble deals, which is not only way way way cheaper than pre-packaged deals but also pretty good since they seem to last quite long (the last computer we did this way was back when I was in lower sec and it's still pretty a-ok till now).

This is so great man. Not only will the desktop PC fulfill my technological requirements (I'm going to pump it up with suitably impressive specs) now that Bao Bei (that's my lappie) is getting old and creaky and a new lappie will only be coming when I go into uni (if I do make it there at all, that is), it will also fit with my trend of thought (which is unsubstantiated but still) that PCs are easier to upgrade than laptops. Plus, I won't have to keep resetting up my laptop when I reach home from school every day!

Yay yay yay.

Gabriel.

I am very very unimpressed and disappointed with Firefox 2.0. For the last few days, not only has it been terribly laggy and hangs very, very, very frequently, sometimes even when it's just starting up, it even has problems with the add-ons, auto-updating them, which, for some reason, causes them to stop working. It keeps saying that these new, updated add-ons will be installed the next time Firefox starts up but they never do.

I don't know whether I've set something wrongly or is it just bugging my computer since most of the feedback I've heard online have been great.
So yay I finally got most of my Firefox extensions fixed and they work perfectly fine now! Not sure exactly how I did it, though, but I'm very very happy. For some reason, though, Firefox kept hanging on me just. Maybe multiple myspace tabs loading at the same time overloads the browser? And their stupid Quality Feedback Check or whatever hangs my browser every single time it comes out, something which has been happening since the very start of the browser.

***

Woohoo! Damien got two touchdowns in one night for his two performances! That's an unprecedented first in Australian Idol history, if I'm not wrong. When I saw the songs he was singing, I knew he'd rocked it. I remember the short clip they showed of him singing "Hallelujah" in the Sydney rounds. Those 6 seconds were all I needed to become his fan. Well done!

Gabriel.

Pretty normal as tennis games with me go. Quite a few goofs and gaffs but oh well. So much for my watching unhealthy amounts of Prince Of Tennis anime episodes. Oh and I got tired quite soon. I could blame it on my utter lack of fitness and ballooning weight (and waistline) but I'm just going to blame the haze. PSI 50 leh!

***

Ok I think the growth of my wisdom teeth is like wrecking havoc with the rest of my teeth. I thought the dentist told me my wisdom teeth had stopped growing?!

Anyway, I don't know whether I'm being paranoid or what but there are times when my jaw, or certain parts of it, feels numb and my teeth feel slightly misaligned. Oh and I don't know whether I'm just imagining things but when I look into the mirror and look at (and feel) my bottom front teeth, it feels like they've been pushed out of their usual alightment. My two bottom front teeth used to be pretty much flat and straight. Now, one of them's pretty askew.

I just hope that my wisdom teeth won't grow so fast and that, by the time I get to operate on them in NS, that they won't already have misaligned all my teeth.
Well it's been a pretty enjoyable day so far.

Church service just now was great. The sermon itself had some pretty practical and relatable points to keep in mind and the worship session was just great. We sung quite a few of my faves, including one of my all-time favourites, Still, with a new-fangled arrangement.

Went to shop for my grand dad's birthday present with my mum before we had lunch at Yoshinoya.

After returning home, I edited two stories and also compiled the movie line up list for lesson on Tuesday so that ups my productivity count for the day.

Now, I'm just going to rest for a while before starting on housework, going for a jog and some exercise (finally!) before going for my grand dad's birthday dinner later in the evening.

Sometimes, when I'm busy (with some work but not too much), I actually feel more productive and much better about the day than if I was just lazing around with nothing much to do.

***

Yay, I've got an iPod Shuffle to use while jogging! So now I can cancel the iPod Shuffle Mini out of my wishlist!

Haha, a few months back when my mum bought me my iPod Video, she bought herself the Shuffle in an attempt to motivate herself to jog. Now, however, she has decided to give up jogging for good and stick to her usual favourites of swimming and golf, both of which don't require the Shuffle. So, she's passed it to me to use! Woohoo! Plus, she's only used it like twice so it's good as new.

***

Y'know, people say dreams are indicative of what you're thinking or worried most about during the day. While I can see that it's true for some (yes, dear reader, you know who you are), I think it's quite random for me. Take, for example, the two nightmares I've had the last two nights, which, ironically, came during the nights when I have the most time to rest and deprive me of enjoying my sleep. My dreams are more like movies (they even happen in very dramatic, movie-like scenes) than reflections of my life.

My first dream occurred two nights ago. I dreamt that I was going for an exam but somehow I've forgotten to print out some slip of paper that I needed to validate my entrance into the hall. So, with only a few minutes before the exam had to start, I had to run all over Singapore (don't ask me why I didn't just go home) to try to get it printed. I remember the last scene involved me already being half an hour late for the exam and still running around trying to find some place to print it. I can't really remember much of the details but I do remember it was terribly disturbing and I was quite happy and relieved when I finally woke up.

Whilst these dreams are quite common for me (along with the come-to-school-in-pajamas ones) a few days before my actual exam periods, this last one was so random since I'm not going to be taking any exams for another few years at least.

My second dream occurred last night. It was slightly nonsensical but kinda scary too.

I dreamt that I, together with Darren and a few others, was planning some overnight camp in school (which was not NP but which kinda looked like my secondary school but also different, as dreams would have it) for my year 2 juniors, which somehow included juniors from secondary school too. For some reason, there was a serial killer called "Con" (I have no idea how I was supposed to know this) in the school at night. I can't remember whether anyone was actually killed or murdered and I don't think we actually saw "Con" in the dream, but I remember that the dream was set mostly at night and there was a very tense and dramatically frightening air and we were all cooped up in rooms waiting to be discovered and slaughtered.

They sound kinda lame now but, trust me, it's frightening as hell when you're in the dream.

Alright, off to housework then.

Gabriel.

eta (Later at night): Wowweee, so ok, I didn't manage to get my exercise today because there was an unexpected problem with uploading songs into the Shuffle and by the time I was done, it was time to go off for dinner already. I did manage to get my housework done though so I'm quite proud of myself for that.

eta (A few minutes later in the night): Ok I'm quite proud of myself again. Usually when I impulse buy I go a bit crazy and spend copious amounts of money buying things I really don't need. Today, however, my impulse was cheap, quick and practical. I bought a DS Lite screen protector set, a silicon case and a skin for my Shuffle, as well as a plastic protector for my Ipod Video, all of which are practical and needed asap to protect my gadgets before they get scratched. Best of all, although this combination of items would usually cost nearly $30 in total outside, I paid a grand total of $16.90 for them on Yahoo! Auctions from buyers who seem pretty credible.
